Some people have an allergic reaction to their pet’s poop.
But the majority don’t have an allergy, according to a study by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
The study, published Monday in the journal PLOS ONE, found that people with an allergy to their dog’s poop were more likely to have a reaction to other pets.
“The main culprits were other pets, as well as the dog’s feces itself,” said study author Dr. Lisa A. Hickey, an allergist and professor at the University of California, Davis.
“The dogs and cats all were associated with the same pattern of symptoms.”
The study found that a person’s dog’s urine was more likely than the dog itself to cause a reaction.
The researchers looked at data from nearly 300,000 adults who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2011.
People with allergies were more than three times as likely as those without allergies to have an asthma attack or a cough.
Hickey said that while there may be some overlap, her study didn’t find any association between a person with allergies and having a reaction when it came to the pet’s feces.
She said it’s important to look at people’s responses to pets, not the pets themselves.
“It’s important that the person who’s allergic doesn’t assume that they are a carrier of allergies,” she said.
“If they’re allergic, it’s not because they have allergies.
The person who has allergies is also at risk.”
She said people with allergies should look for signs of allergy, like a rash or difficulty breathing.
The most common symptoms seen in people with asthma were a runny nose, difficulty breathing and difficulty urinating, the study said.
People with allergies can also develop a flare-up of symptoms when they eat foods that contain the food.
People are more likely if they have a food allergy that’s not severe, such as milk or cheese, than if they’re a person without an allergy.
“In my opinion, if you’re not a good eater, you probably don’t need a pet,” Hickey said.
She noted that the majority of allergies are related to food.
The most common food allergies were to nuts, wheat and eggs.
Haney also said people should always have an open discussion with their pets about what they’re eating.
“They are not strangers, so let them make their own decisions,” she added.
“They should also be aware that if they are allergic, there are some foods they shouldn’t be eating.”
